Description: The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers. They ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and supported through a shared governance model. The framework for practice is guided by a professional practice model and evidence-based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by core values. All RN Clinical Nurses must be licensed and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by state regulations. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected that individuals uphold the voice of the patient and system policies.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The RN performs the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation. They provide relationship-based patient-centered care tailored to population-specific characteristics such as age and disease. They partner with patients and significant others to ensure an understanding of care goals. The RN coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care. This includes diverse interdisciplinary communication methods and timely documentation. They demonstrate teamwork and collaboration while being fiscally responsible. The RN participates in performance improvement activities and supports research to promote safe and quality patient care. They complete all professional competency assessments and required education. The RN serves as a mentor and preceptor for other nurses and staff. They promote evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement. Upholding organizational policies and legal standards is essential in their practice. They participate in data collection and consult experts for clinical questions. The RN plans for the care of patients across the continuum of care. They collaborate in developing protocols and procedures to achieve best practice outcomes. Support of efficient use of resources is crucial in their role. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
