Behavior Specialist – Special EducationJOB DESCRIPTION: Behavior Specialist – Special EducationQualifications:Current Alabama Teacher's Certification, Bachelor's Degree or higher in special educationPreferred experience in assessment of behaviorAt least three (3) successful years of teaching in the special education fieldEssential Duties:Obtain certification as a trainer in de-escalation and restraintConduct de-escalation and restraint training for designated staffAssist with the assessment of behavior needs of identified studentsIdentify the appropriate conflict and problem-solving skillsDesign and follow up with student behavior contractsConference with parents related to behavioral and academic concernsProvide technical assistance to teachers on behavioral alternatives and interventions, including conducting workshopsAssess and evaluate students for eligibility for emotional disordersEvaluate program effectivenessParticipate in due process hearings for students with disabilitiesMonitor special education alternative programsDevelop functional behavior assessmentsMonitor and attend IEP meetings to determine alternative education settingsEstablish a positive relationship with students, parents, co-workers, volunteers, and other visitorsAll other applicable duties as assigned by an administratorHOW TO APPLY: All applicants should complete the State of Alabama on-line application and attach it to the specific job number in order to be eligible for hire.
