Position Summary:

The Electrical Technician - Gas Plant is responsible for the safe and reliable maintenance of electrical equipment and systems across HKN Syria's gas plant and associated processing facilities, including LV and HV distribution, motors, generators, switchgear, lighting, and control power systems. The role carries out preventive and corrective electrical maintenance, fault-finding, and testing, working as an authorised person under the site electrical safety rules and permit-to-work system to ensure the safe isolation and restoration of electrical supplies. The position requires strong electrical maintenance fundamentals, hands-on experience in oil and gas or process plant environments, and the ability to work safely on energised and de-energised systems in a demanding, remote field environment.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Electrical Maintenance & Fault-Finding

• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on gas plant electrical equipment, including motors, generators, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, lighting, and small power.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults on LV and HV systems to restore safe and reliable operation.
• Perform inspection, testing, and functional checks of electrical equipment in accordance with procedures and schedules.
• Support the maintenance of instrumentation and control power supplies (UPS, chargers, and batteries) as required.

Electrical Safety & Isolation

• Work as an authorised person under the site electrical safety rules and permit-to-work system.
• Carry out safe electrical isolations, switching, and de-isolations under the direction of the Responsible Electrical Person (REP) / Senior Authorised Person.
• Ensure electrical work is carried out on de-energised systems, and on energised systems only where properly authorised and controlled.
• Apply lock-out / tag-out (LOTO) and isolation procedures at all times.

Testing, Records & Coordination

• Use electrical test instruments (multimeters, insulation testers, clamp meters, and similar) to test and verify equipment condition.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, test results, and equipment history in the CMMS.
• Read and work from electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Coordinate with operations, instrument, and mechanical teams during maintenance and troubleshooting activities.

HSSE & Compliance

• Comply with HKN HSSE policies, the electrical safety rules, and the permit-to-work system at all times.
• Report electrical hazards, faults, incidents, and near-misses promptly.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area and ensure correct use of tools and PPE.

Minimum Qualifications:

Diploma, technical certificate, or trade qualification in Electrical Engineering / Electrical Maintenance or a related discipline.

Minimum 5 years of electrical maintenance experience, preferably in oil and gas, gas processing, or petrochemical facilities.

Hands-on experience maintaining and fault-finding LV and HV electrical equipment (motors, generators, switchgear, MCCs, and transformers).

Working knowledge of electrical safety rules, safe isolation, and permit-to-work systems.

Ability to work as an authorised person on electrical systems under the direction of the REP / Senior Authorised Person.

Competent in the use of electrical test instruments and the interpretation of electrical drawings and single-line diagrams.

Knowledge of relevant electrical standards and safe working practices.

Willingness to work rotational schedules in remote field locations in Syria, with the ability to respond to electrical breakdowns.

Demonstrated commitment to HSSE standards, electrical safety, and safe operating practices in field environments.
