Mechanical Discipline Manager - Thermal Infrastructure

Mechanical Discipline Manager – Thermal Infrastructure (Raleigh, NC & Orlando, FL) As a mechanical discipline manager, you will oversee the design and engineering resources for thermal infrastructure projects, ensuring technical quality, adherence to schedules and budgets, and providing on‑the‑spot advice and decisions. Responsibilities Technical and quality oversight of all project work. Establishing/improving standards. Adherence to project design schedule. Notification to Project/Client Managers if an established project design schedule cannot be met (preferably at least 2 weeks prior). Adherence to discipline project budget (review and provide updates at milestone dates). Attention to project scope during the design process to identify potential additional services. Identify staff performing design of the project and, if required, a senior staff member. Identify Engineer of Record. Provide general updates of projects (status in the process, tasks to complete, percentage complete, etc.). Identify milestone dates when each discipline should provide information at each phase to allow sufficient time for coordination. Provide on‑the‑spot advice and decisions, technical and cost estimates. Coordinate with all disciplines involved, including outside consultants. Develop work schedule for discipline showing project assignments and priorities, delivery due dates for group commitments, and workload/capacity. Required Skills & Experience Experience in the design of institutional, educational, healthcare, laboratory, and military projects. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field. Professional Engineer's license (existing licensure in NC and/or VA preferred). 15+ years of technical experience in the design of thermal distribution systems, central utility plants, and/or building mechanical systems. Experience in AutoCAD, Civil3D, drafting is a plus. Experience in pipe stress modeling is a plus. Self‑motivated and well‑organized. Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
