Tax Senior Tax Senior

Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Senior to lead complex tax engagements and deliver high-quality tax compliance and consulting services for individuals, partnerships and corporations. The Tax Senior will manage client relationships, review and prepare tax returns, research technical issues, and mentor junior staff to ensure accurate and timely tax filings while identifying tax planning opportunities and risks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage individual, partnership, and corporate tax engagements from planning through completion, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local tax laws.
  • Prepare, review and file complex income tax returns for individuals, partnerships (Form 1065), S corporations, and C corporations, including relevant schedules and disclosures.
  • Conduct tax research and interpret tax code, IRS regulations and case law; prepare technical memoranda and recommend tax positions and planning strategies.
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients to gather information, explain tax positions, and provide proactive tax advice tailored to their needs.
  • Review work of junior staff, provide mentorship, training, and performance feedback to develop team capabilities and ensure quality control.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities, assess tax risks, and assist clients with tax planning initiatives such as entity selection, allocations, basis calculations and estimated tax strategies.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets and billing; ensure deliverables are completed on schedule and meet firm quality standards.
  • Assist with tax notice response, audits, and controversy matters as needed, including preparation of supporting documentation and liaison with tax authorities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters in Tax or CPA/EA designation preferred.
  • Minimum 35 years of progressive tax experience with substantial exposure to individual, partnership and corporate tax matters; prior Tax Senior or similar role preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal, state and local tax rules and experience with tax research tools and resources.
  • Proven experience preparing and reviewing complex individual, partnership and corporate tax returns and supporting schedules.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and written communication skills; ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, with experience supervising and mentoring staff and managing multiple engagements concurrently.
  • Proficiency with tax software (e.g., UltraTax, Lacerte, ProSystem fx), Microsoft Excel and accounting systems; willingness to learn new technologies.
  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering exceptional client service.
