Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A fantastic contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter who is passionate about empowering young learners. In this on-site position, you’ll provide one-to-one support to an elementary student, facilitating inclusive communication and access to all areas of their educational experience. Key Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong knowledge of interpreting protocols
- Current national interpreter certification (such as RID or equivalent)
- Prior experience supporting students in elementary educational settings, particularly in a one-on-one capacity
- Ability to collaborate with educational staff, therapists, and families to ensure optimal support
- Flexible, positive, and professional attitude
- Capacity to maintain confidentiality and adhere to school district policies
- Open to candidates of any gender
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation for classroom instruction, school activities, and interactions
- Adapt communication style for a young learner’s developmental and educational needs
- Assist with conveying curriculum information, assignments, and social interactions
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress notes, as required
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and other relevant conferences
- Work closely with classroom teacher and staff to ensure a seamless educational experience
- Uphold ethical standards and student privacy at all times
This full-time role offers a consistent schedule of 37.5 hours per week, all performed on-site at an elementary school in the Hazel Green area.
