Deputy Superintendent

The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) is seeking a Deputy Superintendent to join our collaborative and mission-driven team.

The Deputy Superintendent supports the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, providing strategic leadership and oversight support for the agency's operations. This position is responsible for supervising agency executive team members and the Human Resources director within the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI), ensuring alignment, efficiency, and collaboration across programs and initiatives. While a predominately internal leadership role, the Deputy Superintendent represents NDDPI externally on specific initiatives, helping advance the mission of public education in North Dakota.

As the Deputy Superintendent, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education in North Dakota. This position offers the opportunity to influence statewide policy, strengthen operational excellence, and support initiatives that directly impact students, educators, and communities. You will collaborate with dedicated leaders, contribute to strategic decision-making at the highest levels, and help drive meaningful, systemwide improvements. This role provides a chance to make a lasting difference in public education while leading a committed team within a mission-driven agency.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Oversee the supervision, management, and strategic direction of NDDPI executive leadership team and Human Resources director, ensuring alignment with state and federal education policies.
• Foster a culture of operational excellence within NDDPI amongst all team members.
• Provide executive leadership in the enforcement of state statutes and federal regulations related to education programs.
• Support the State Superintendent in evaluating and implementing education policy, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders.
• Develop and implement policies and initiatives that expand educational opportunities and improve student outcomes across the state.
• Represent the agency externally as directed by the State Superintendent.
• Provide leadership in long-term strategic planning, program evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts within the agency.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree in education, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field; master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in education administration or public sector leadership, including demonstrated experience managing large-scale educational programs, leading and supporting teams, and strategic planning.

Compensation and Location:

• Hiring Range: $125,000 - $140,000 annually, depending on experience.
• Location: Onsite at the State Capitol in Bismarck, ND.
