Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring 2 years of ICU experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.

Details

• ICU setting caring for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Patient population includes MICU and SICU cases such as surgical abdominal, neuro cervical spine, and post-op patients
• Cardiac diagnoses including MI, chest pain, sepsis, ARDS, cardiogenic shock, overdose, and post-cath patients
• No trauma cases
• Utilizes pressors and sedation drips including Epi, Lido, Milrinone, Precedex, Cleviprex, Nicardipine, and Propofol
• Unit equipment includes ventilators, CRRT, IABP, and proning therapy with prior experience preferred
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• Floating required to IMC and CSU as well as lower acuity specialty units as needed
• No standing on-call requirement, though shift pick-up may be requested during core staff call-outs
• Patient ratio of 1:2, up to 1:3 for lower acuity patients

Requirements

• Active RN license, MD or Compact, required at time of consideration
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA only)
• CPI certification required (Calm Every Storm online version accepted)
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Skilled in ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and airway suctioning (ETT, NT)
• Experience with arterial line management, central line care, and PICC line management
• Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Experience with continuous IV sedation and neuromuscular blockade administration
• Experience managing CVA/acute stroke, EVD, ICP monitoring, and post-neurosurgery patients
• Experience with CVVHD/CRRT and acute/chronic renal failure management
• Comfortable floating within scope to other specialty and lower acuity units with no restrictions

Additional Information

• Provide direct bedside ICU care for critically ill patients requiring advanced monitoring and multi-system support
• Work alongside core unit staff with travelers expected to float as first priority when needed
• Must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible unless otherwise specified as local-accepted
• Former staff must have been separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• Returning travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the system after completing a prior assignment
• Maximum RTO request of 7 days; requests of more than 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the contract
• One major holiday off may be allowed during the winter season depending on the unit
• Extensions typically limited to one contract plus one extension before a 6-month break is required
• First-time travelers are not eligible due to required travel experience
