Mechanic III | Grade 4 | $52,964 - $84,743*

Mechanic Trainee | Grade 3 | $49,499- $79,199*

* Two positions are available, to be filled based on the candidate’s qualifications. Each position can be filled with any level of experience. *Starting salary will be between minimum and midpoint in the range.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will be responsible for performing a wide variety of routine tasks involving installation, maintenance (preventive, predictive and corrective), operation, inspection, repair and troubleshooting of heavy-duty sewage treatment facilities and mobile and special purpose equipment; may be exposed to a wastewater biological and chemical hazardous environment and the hazards of rotating equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Mechanic II will perform a wide variety of skilled tasks in maintaining and repairing mobile, and special purpose equipment as well as sewage treatment equipment. Work requires the operation of machinery in addition to servicing, repairing and maintaining equipment. Assignments are received in the form of oral and written instruction which may be accompanied by blueprints, sketches, and simple diagrams. Works with limited direction of a Mechanic I or the supervision of the Mechanical Systems Manager or Lead Mechanic, who assigns and checks work for completeness.

Mechanic III is responsible for performing tasks of progressively increasing difficulty in the maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment. The work requires making mechanical adjustments and repairs to industrial equipment and vehicles. Assignments may be performed in conjunction with Mechanic I or II assignments and may involve tasks to be learned on the job. Work is performed under the direction of a Mechanic I or II, or the supervision of the Mechanical System Manager or Lead Mechanics, who assigns work and checks completion.

The Mechanic Trainee will perform under immediate instruction/supervision of Mechanics I and II, as directed by the Mechanical Systems Manager or Lead Mechanics. A Mechanic Trainee gains on-the-job experience as tasks of increasing difficulty are assigned. Must successfully pass the hands-on test requirements for Mechanic III within one year for continued employment.

The incumbent must have some knowledge of principles and practices of mechanical maintenance and repair; knowledge of the mechanical parts and functions of mobile and special purpose equipment; ability to make minor repairs and mechanical adjustments; skill in lubricating industrial on above-cited equipment. Must possess a mechanical aptitude. 

REQUIREMENTS

• Mechanic II :
• Completion of high school or GED is required. Some mechanical work experience and /or applicable trade school training is desired. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience at the Mechanic III level or 4 years of experience in mobile, vehicular, and industrial mechanical equipment maintenance and repair or related field is required.

• Mechanic III :
• Completion of high school or GED is required. Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.
• Some knowledge of principles and practices of mechanical maintenance and repair; knowledge of the mechanical parts and functions of mobile and special purpose equipment; ability to make minor repairs and mechanical adjustments; skill in lubricating industrial on above-cited equipment. 

• Mechanic Trainee :
• Completion of high school or GED is required. Some mechanical work experience and /or applicable trade school training is desired. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
• Knowledge or ability to acquire basic understanding of mechanical equipment; ability to safely use basic hand and power tools; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to work safely with rotating equipment, at heights and in confined spaces. 
• Must be able to handle the physical requirements of the position to include extensive walking, bending, stooping, climbing of stairs and ladders, and lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds.  
• Possession of a vehicle operator's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required for all positions.
