Trades Worker

Compensation City of Greenacres' Compensation Plan allows hiring at a maximum rate of up to 15% above the minimum range for the position based on education, experience and valid proof of certification obtained through extensive programs of study and training over and above the minimum requirements. Position Summary Semi-skilled work involving the inspection, repair and maintenance of City buildings, facilities and their related infrastructure. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs inspections on buildings, park facilities and other structures to determine functionality of systems; provides Supervisor with recommendations using a pre-established inspection sheet. Performs preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs and installations to building systems including but not limited to flooring, interior and exterior lighting, roofing, fire suppression, fixed and portable power generators, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, small appliances and plumbing fixtures using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools. Performs minor electrical maintenance including replacement or repair of fixtures such as wall switches and outlets. Diagnoses causes of electrical problems or failures for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair. Performs minor plumbing maintenance such as repair or replacement of sinks, urinals, toilets, drains and faucets. Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work such as preparing surfaces and applying paints, stains and varnishes, hanging doors and fitting locks, deadbolts, door closers and handles. Inspects City facilities to identify building maintenance needs. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on City buildings, facilities and equipment. Completes work orders, accident reports, inspection checklists and other documents as assigned. Performs various miscellaneous tasks including setting up for events, moving furniture and equipment, replacing flags, painting, carpentry and masonry work. May be required to be on twenty-four hour call and/or work regular shifts, weekends and holidays as needed. Responds to emergency situations during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns. Follows City and departmental safety rules, regulations and procedures and uses personal protection equipment as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge of Occupational hazards, environmental regulations and compliance, and safety precautions of the trade. Skilled trades related to building and facilities repair and maintenance. Equipment and tools used in the maintenance and repair of public facilities. Installation and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Computer software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to Pass FDLE and CJIS security clearance and meet any additional requirements as mandated by the FDLE, CJIS and PBSO. Perform electronic testing of electrical systems and continuity of circuits in wiring, equipment and fixtures using ohmmeters, voltmeters and other testing devices. Work independently and complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner. Safely operate hand tools, power tools and mechanical equipment. Perform basic troubleshooting of HVAC units, plumbing, lighting systems, fire suppression systems and roof repairs. Follow safety rules and regulations of the department and the city. Maintain cleanliness of vehicle and site work areas. Read, interpret and work from specifications, schematics and plans. Exercise independent judgment and initiative without close supervision. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other city departments, peers, vendors and the general public. Maintain high standards for professional and ethical conduct. Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Make sound decisions based on well-established procedures. Respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner in accordance with stated policies. Learn and apply new and existing time and work management government software. Support the city’s mission, values and goals. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of three (3) years of specialized experience as a skilled tradesperson in an assigned trade or performing manual work that involved the use of an acquired skill such as building maintenance and repair work, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License. Must be of good moral character.
