Street Maintenance Technician

Our Streets team works diligently to ensure the safe roads water essential to the quality of life and wellbeing for the Fate community. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled street maintenance and repair tasks of public infrastructure including repair of the City's roadways, parking lots, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and drainage facilities. This position identifies areas needing repairs and may perform demolition, patching and overlaying, crack sealing of asphalt, back filling trenches and excavations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs a variety of street maintenance and construction repairs to asphalt and concrete including sidewalks and curbs
  • Maintains heavy equipment to include backhoe, bobcat and pulling trailer
  • Installs traffic control devices and signage as required
  • Maintains records of street and construction projects and street inventory
  • Repairs/replaces street signs
  • Performs crack sealing and sweeping of city streets
  • Evaluates school zone signals and coordinates street light repairs
  • Daily repairs on city streets as needed
  • Performs proper maintenance of department equipment
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all city owned drainage easements throughout the city
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • None; however, one (1) year experience performing concrete/asphalt street repair preferred.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Texas driver's license
  • A combination of education, training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered
  • Knowledge of concrete and asphalt street maintenance methods.
  • Knowledge of the city geography including street locations.
  • Knowledge of department safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to work under stress and use good judgment in emergency situations
  • Ability to tactfully respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Skills in operating variety of power tools, hand tools, and various construction and excavation equipment
