Overview

Brooksource Engineering Services is seeking a Mechanical Design & Product Validation Engineer to support a leading manufacturing client. This engineer will play a key role in product development, validation, current product support, and cross-functional engineering initiatives supporting complex mechanical systems, industrial equipment, and manufactured products.

The ideal candidate will combine strong mechanical design expertise with hands-on product validation experience, supporting products throughout their lifecycle from concept through production release and ongoing field support.

This role requires close collaboration with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, test engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost. The position includes mechanical design execution, validation planning, root cause investigation, product testing, and engineering documentation responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & Engineering Execution

• Create, modify, review, and release 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Support component and system design activities throughout the product lifecycle.
• Conduct design reviews and ensure technical requirements are accurately reflected in released documentation.
• Apply GD&T principles and ensure drawings communicate dimensional, tolerance, inspection, and manufacturing requirements.
• Support tolerance stack-up analysis, fit checks, dimensional variation studies, and peer reviews.
• Partner with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and supplier teams to drive optimal product performance, quality, and cost.

Product Validation & Testing

• Develop and maintain validation plans, test plans, DVP&R documentation, FMEA documentation, and quality plans.
• Coordinate product testing activities and support test execution.
• Prepare test instructions, build plans, teardown procedures, and instrumentation requirements.
• Review test results, investigate issues, document findings, and communicate recommendations to stakeholders.
• Support hardware inspections, teardown analysis, and product verification efforts.

Problem Solving & Product Support

• Lead structured root cause investigations for product and manufacturing issues.
• Drive corrective and preventive actions through resolution.
• Support manufacturing facilities and supplier partners by troubleshooting product concerns and implementing solutions.
• Maintain issue tracking documentation and communicate status, risks, and recommendations across teams.
• Ensure engineering standards and documentation remain current and accurate.

Project Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Manage engineering tasks and project deliverables to established deadlines.
• Lead technical discussions and coordinate activities across engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and program leadership.
• Support product improvement initiatives, cost reduction efforts, sourcing changes, and value engineering projects.
• Provide technical updates, risk assessments, and engineering recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Experience supporting mechanical design of complex components, assemblies, equipment, or industrial systems.
• Proficiency with Creo or comparable 3D CAD software.
• Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation.
• Experience with engineering release processes, design reviews, configuration management, and engineering change management.
• Experience developing validation documentation such as DVP&R, FMEA, test plans, quality plans, or similar engineering records.
• Experience supporting product testing, hardware builds, inspections, or validation activities.
• Strong problem-solving skills with experience leading root cause investigations and corrective actions.
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively to engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting manufacturing operations or production environments.
• Experience working with suppliers, quality teams, and cross-functional product development organizations.
• Knowledge of design-for-manufacturability (DFM), variation analysis, tolerance stack-ups, and reliability engineering concepts.
• Experience leading cost reduction, sourcing transition, product improvement, or value engineering projects.
• Familiarity with PLM systems, engineering change processes, and engineering documentation tools.
• Experience supporting complex industrial equipment, heavy machinery, power systems, automotive, off-highway, aerospace, medical device, or other highly engineered products.
