Diagnostic Radiologic Technician- Responsibilities (listed are included but not limited to):

• The Diagnostic Radiologic Technician shall provide diagnostic imaging radiologic services in Radiography, in a competent and professional manner assigned by the Supervisor of Medical Imaging Services.
• Provide services at dates and times assigned by the Supervisor.
• Provide emergency coverage when short-staffed as assigned.
• Duties and responsibilities may encompass Out-Patient, In-Patient, Urgent Care, and Emergency Room departments served to patients.
• Perform diagnostic imaging procedures, such as Radiologic examinations.
• The Diagnostic Radiologic Technician is responsible for accurately positioning patients and ensuring that a quality diagnostic image is produced. They work closely with radiologists, the physicians who interpret medical images to either diagnose or rule out disease or injury. For the images to be interpreted correctly by the radiologist, the imaging examination must be performed properly by a radiologic technologist and CT technologist.
• Provides information to diagnose patient illnesses by operating radiologic equipment to produce radiographs.
• Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; and verifying receipt of supplies.
• Maintaining and operating imaging equipment.
• Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanations of treatment, and answering questions.
• Prepares patients for radiological procedures by positioning patients, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into a specified position, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
• Performs imaging examinations that will be responsible for accurately positioning patients and ensuring that a quality diagnostic image is produced.
• The Diagnostic Radiologic Technician works closely with radiologists, ordering providers to assist in diagnosing diseases and injuries.

Diagnostic Radiology Technician - Requirements:

• Successful completion of an accredited educational training program in which technologists are certified as Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and must be certified for their specialty.
• Technologists must be currently certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
• Two years' experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment under the direction of a Radiologist or other medical officer to produce radiographic studies/images used in medical diagnosis and treatment.
• Must have worked within a hospital lab setting as an X-Ray Tech in the last six months.
• Provide evidence of current professional liability insurance.
• Be available to work for the VA at least six (6) months after starting date.
