Mechanic Heavy Equipment (Traveling) - Belen, NM Location: Belen, NM Number of positions: 1 Anticipated start date: 06/01/2026 Salary: $9,075.24/month (approx. $104,714 to $136,000/year) Responsibilities Maintain and repair the fleet of equipment operated by BNSF. Disassemble, repair, modify, manufacture, overhaul, and troubleshoot roadway maintenance equipment, including hydraulic, pneumatic air, fuel (gasoline and diesel) systems, driveline components, and final/planetary drive systems. Operate equipment and use a variety of manual, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools, welders, and cutting torches to perform and verify maintenance and repairs. Perform work in a safety‑sensitive environment, handling diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet), uneven surfaces, loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery. Adhere to BNSF safety regulations, policies, and procedures, including wearing required safety equipment. Travel extensively to job sites across the designated seniority region and states. Attend company‑paid on‑the‑job and classroom training, including travel to the BNSF Training Center. Qualifications Able to maintain employment authorization independently (e.g., H‑1B, STEM OPT/CPT, TN is not required). 21 years of age or older. Capable of working safely in extreme weather and varied conditions. Capable of working the required shift hours, including alternating shifts, nights, on‑call, weekends, overtime, and holidays. Ready to meet extensive travel requirements. Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, hearing, and understanding English. Capable of lifting and carrying up to 60 lbs occasionally. Possesses a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsements; able to obtain Class A within 60 days if required. Can visually distinguish colors (red, blue, green, yellow, clear light) and identify verbal/non‑verbal signals. Two years of verifiable mechanical work experience or training. One year of training and/or experience working with gasoline and diesel engines on large industrial equipment. Three months of training and/or experience with electrical and/or gas welding. One year of training and/or experience with electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams and schematics. Proficient in using hand tools for holding, grasping, turning, and pulling tasks. Occasional ladder climbing and work from heights, including repairing equipment and trucks. Ability to bend, lift, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
