Senior Backend Engineer

Kforce has a client in Fremont, CA that is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to design and build scalable distributed systems that power critical business applications. Summary: This role focuses on backend services, APIs, and data systems supporting high-volume, real-time applications across the platform. This team builds systems responsible for customer data, order processing, inventory, and platform integrations. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop scalable backend services and distributed systems
- Build and maintain REST APIs and service-oriented architectures
- Develop microservices to support high-throughput, real-time applications
- Work with SQL and NoSQL databases to design efficient data models
- Implement messaging systems and asynchronous workflows
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code (unit + integration tests)
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot production issues, and improve reliability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end features
- Continuously improve system scalability, availability, and performance
- API design and backend service ownership
- Scalability, performance, and reliability
- Building systems that power core business operations
- BS/MS in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong experience with backend languages such as Go, Python, Java, or C#
- Expertise in REST API development
- Experience with microservices/distributed systems architecture
- Experience working with databases (SQL or NoSQL)
- Familiarity with message queue systems/event-driven architectures
- Strong understanding of testing practices (unit + integration)
- Experience with Kafka, Debezium, Elasticsearch
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with GraphQL or gRPC
- Exposure to AI/agent workflow systems
- Experience in Agile/Scrum environments
