Adjunct Instructor of Accounting The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Accounting. Location: Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 39406-0001, United States Division: Accountancy Position Type: Faculty Employment Status: Part Time Grant Funded: No Pay Grade: Generic Grade Posting Close Date: Open Until Filled Special Instructions to Applicants: Screening of applications will begin immediately and hiring will depend on the needs of School of Accountancy on a semester-by-semester basis. Adjunct instructors are engaged to teach classes on a class-by-class, semester-by-semester basis. Applications submitted through email or surface mail will not be considered. The following are required for your application to be complete and to be considered: 1) a cover letter that describes the candidate's qualifications for the position as detailed in this announcement and their area of teaching interest; 2) a current curriculum vitae; 3) evidence of teaching effectiveness, if applicable (e.g., a sample of recent, system-generated teaching evaluations); and 4) names and contact information for five professional references, at least three of whom can provide an evaluation of teaching or teaching potential. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship. The University will not sponsor applicants for work visas (e.g., H-1B). Job Summary: The School of Accountancy (SoA) in the College of Business and Economic Development (CBED), University of Southern Mississippi, invites applications for adjunct instructors to teach courses in accounting. Applicants should indicate in their cover letter their area of expertise and teaching interest (i.e. financial, managerial, auditing, tax, etc.). Candidates may be asked to teach on the Hattiesburg or Gulf Park campus, in a remote delivery format, or online. Adjunct instructors are engaged to teach classes on a class-by-class, semester-by-semester basis. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Design and deliver courses covering the assigned content and topics. Communicate course requirements to students. Teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes as needed. Be available to students enrolled in their class for support and course advising, including exams, required remediation, and summative evaluations. Be collaborative with other CBED faculty as well as the Director of the SoA to plan, implement, and evaluate each course offering taught to maintain quality and effectiveness. Assign and evaluate assessments required for assurance of learning. Follow the policies and procedures of the College of Business and Economic Development, the School of Accountancy, and the University of Southern Mississippi. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Accounting; or graduate degree in business with 18 graduate credit hours in accounting. For tax courses, a Juris Doctorate with a graduate degree in taxation (L.L.M. or MST) will meet the minimum qualifications. Meet the requirements of a scholarly academic, practice academic, scholarly practitioner, or instructional practitioner in accounting for AACSB accreditation purposes. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to teach effectively (both online and in traditional settings) at the university level Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Proven track record of effective teaching practices. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from all backgrounds, programs, and colleges. Knowledge of the field of advanced business law topics The ability to navigate and use learning management systems for teaching, such as Canvas, as well as other technological communications (Microsoft Office Suite). Proficiency in teaching strategies and techniques for all student populations Preferred Qualifications: An earned doctorate in Accounting or other appropriate related field from an AACSB accredited institution Experience in public or corporate accounting Professional certification as a CPA or CMA Prior teaching experience at a four-year university delivering online and campus classes Experience with learning management and online homework systems The School of Accountancy is separately accredited by AACSB and offers undergraduate and master degrees with an extensive network of alumni in local, state, and federal service. We serve accounting majors on both the Hattiesburg and the Gulf Park campuses. The Hattiesburg area has an estimated population of approximately 150,000 and is one of the fastest growing regions in the State of Mississippi. The main campus is located in the culturally diverse and economically dynamic southern part of Mississippi about 65 miles from the Gulf Coast. Students, faculty and staff benefit from a climate that fosters year-round outdoor activities, and the quality of life is characterized by a reasonable cost of living coupled with easy access to major metropolitan areas such as New Orleans, LA; Mobile, AL; and Jackson, MS.
