Registered Nurse In Emergency RoomThe nurse will work in the Emergency Room unit. Nurse:Patient ratios vary based on acuity; a 1:3 ratio is common. The department treats patients across the lifespan, from newborns to geriatrics. Common diagnoses include respiratory, cardiac, trauma, and stroke issues. Experience in dealing with critical access emergency department scenarios is preferred. The facility has a Level IV trauma designation and is stroke-ready. There are 10 beds and 2 trauma bays in the unit. A separate triage area is available, and competent triage skills are required. There is one locked seclusion room for psychiatric patients within the unit. Security is not in-house, and competence in de-escalation skills is expected. The average number of patients treated daily is between 25 to 30. Common medication drips include norepinephrine, nitroglycerin, heparin, amiodarone, and propofol. The unit is staffed with one provider 24/7, who may be an MD, DO, or PA. There is no charge nurse on each shift. Certified Nursing Assistants/Techs assist during specific hours. Respiratory Therapists are present during daytime hours and on call at night for critical tasks. RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips, and both RNs and phlebotomy staff can draw labs. Shifts are scheduled in 6-week blocks without self-scheduling or block scheduling options. Weekends and holidays are required every third weekend and every other holiday. RNs may be required to attend actor transport for stroke activations. Scrub color is not specified, but professional appearance is expected. Unit-specific orientation will continue until competency is achieved, but no more than four shifts will be allotted for orientation.
