The position assists with the day‑to‑day maintenance of the campus library and the ongoing support of students' and faculty's awareness and use of library resources and technology. These duties include, but are not limited to circulation of materials, troubleshooting technology, reference assistance, collection maintenance, literacy programming, outreach activities, media and communications support. Qualifications Education/Certification: High school diploma or hold a GED certificate Have met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning* Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work well with children Ability to communicate effectively, including excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written skills Effective time management skills Knowledge of integrated library systems, Follett Destiny Library Manager preferred Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal and cataloging systems in order to locate, shelve, and maintain order of library materials Experience working with Google Workspace, library catalogs/databases, and the internet Experience creating promotional materials such as flyers, posters, social media post and displays Ability to monitor and supervise the library to ensure a safe and comfortable environment Experience: Experience working in a library or related setting Some year experience working with children Major Responsibilities and Duties Library Program Support Implement school library program and create a library media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students. Help students and staff use library media center resources including computers and other equipment. Check books and technology in and out. Collect and record fines. Manage campus library media budget and make acquisitions of materials and equipment as needed. Instructional Support Provide individual and group instruction for students and other library users and help them locate resources and use research techniques. Reinforce reading instruction as directed by teachers. May read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud. Ready materials for classroom use or reserve collection use as requested by teachers. Media and Communication Support Manage and update the campus website. Oversee curation of campus social media content and scheduled postings. Support advertising and promotion strategies for campus. Responsible for creation and publication of campus promotional material in line with district communications plans. Accounting and Inventory Maintain library catalog. Process, organize, distribute, and maintain inventory of library media center resources. Request and schedule use of materials from outside sources. Perform routine maintenance and repair books, magazines, materials, and equipment. Arrange for repair at outside facilities (e.g., bindery) as directed. Clerical Support Prepare forms, purchase orders, requisitions, and routine correspondence according to district procedures. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required. Student Management Monitor students and maintain appropriate student behavior and an orderly atmosphere. Other Assign work to parent volunteers and student aides and oversee completion. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. 197 day contract. Supervisory Responsibilities Monitor the work and issue work assignments to parent volunteers and student aides. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard library equipment including imaging equipment; standard instructional equipment Posture: Regular sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular overhead reaching; climbing ladders Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds) Environment: Work inside; work alone; exposure to biological and chemical hazards such as mold and dust Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruption; maintain emotional control under stress * Required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for aides who are providing instructional support in Title I, Part A Program.
