Registered Nurse - ObstetricsA leading healthcare organization is seeking experienced Registered Nurse Obstetrics to join its Women's Services team in Danville, Illinois. The RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, antepartum care, gynecologic surgical care, and newborn care. This position requires strong maternal-fetal assessment skills, the ability to respond to obstetric emergencies, and a commitment to providing safe, compassionate care to mothers and newborns. Candidates must have at least one year of recent OB or Labor & Delivery nursing experience.Responsibilities include:Provide direct nursing care to patients during labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartumAssess maternal and fetal status and recognize changes requiring interventionMonitor fetal heart rate patterns and uterine activityProvide care to antepartum and triage patientsAssist physicians and providers during vaginal deliveries and obstetric proceduresSupport Cesarean section procedures in the unit's operating roomsProvide postpartum nursing care and education to mothers and familiesAssess and care for newborns following deliveryAdminister medications, IV therapies, and treatments according to physician orders and established protocolsRespond appropriately to obstetric and neonatal emergenciesEducate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and discharge instructionsCollaborate with obstetricians, anesthesia providers, pediatric providers, nursing staff, and other interdisciplinary team membersMaintain accurate and timely clinical documentationFollow infection-control, patient-safety, and maternal-newborn care standardsMaintain required fetal monitoring competenciesProvide care according to established AWHONN staffing and patient-ratio guidelinesPerform other nursing responsibilities within scope of practice as assignedRequired qualifications include:Current Illinois Registered Nurse licenseMinimum of one year of OB or Labor & Delivery nursing experienceCurrent Basic Life Support certificationCurrent Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certificationCurrent Neonatal Resuscitation Program certificationFetal monitoring competency maintained at least every two yearsStrong maternal and fetal assessment skillsAbility to recognize and respond to obstetric emergenciesStrong communication, critical-thinking, and clinical decision-making skillsAbility to work 12-hour night shiftsPreferred qualifications include:AWHONN fetal monitoring education or certificationPediatric Advanced Life Support certificationExperience caring for antepartum, postpartum, and mother-baby patientsExperience assisting with Cesarean section proceduresExperience caring for gynecologic surgical patientsPrevious experience in a combined OB/L&D departmentThe Women's Services department includes:5 Labor & Delivery beds2 operating rooms for Cesarean sections1 Labor & Delivery triage bed3 single postpartum rooms4 double postpartum rooms, typically utilized as single-patient rooms with space for a support personApproximately 250 births annuallyPatient populations include:Labor and deliveryAntepartumPostpartumMother-BabyNewbornsGynecologic surgical patientsTypical staffing follows AWHONN guidelines:Active Labor: Approximately 1:1Antepartum / Triage / Early Labor: Up to 1:3Mother-Baby: Up to 1:6Benefits and incentives include:$20,000 sign-on bonus with a two-year employment commitmentCompetitive compensation based on experience$4.00 per hour night differential$3.25 per hour weekend differentialComprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefitsRetirement savings programsPaid time offContinuing-education and professional-development opportunitiesMaternal-newborn and nursing career advancement opportunitiesEmployee wellness and assistance programsIf you are an experienced OB or Labor & Delivery RN who is passionate about supporting mothers, newborns, and families throughout the childbirth experience, we would love to hear from you.
