UAS Whalesong Editor Fall 2026 - Spring 2027

Whalesong, the UAS student newspaper, is looking for a student Editor for Fall 2026 & Spring 2027 semesters. The Whalesong Managing Editor will oversee newsroom operations, including story coverage, copy editing, visuals, web, social media, and print. The candidate must be a team player and detail-oriented, with research ability, and excellent written and visual communication skills. The Managing Editor will check and respond to Whalesong emails and may write an occasional Whalesong editorial.
During the Academic Year 2026-27, all Whalesong employees have the option of hourly payment or a paid Whalesong internship of 1 – 3 credits, resulting in a tuition waiver. Students who choose payment will receive $14.38 per hour. Those who prefer an internship will receive academic credit and a grade for their work. All students will work under the supervision of Dr. Rosemarie Alexander-Isett, Whalesong faculty advisor. All Whalesong employees will attend weekly meetings, must be able to meet deadlines, and may be asked to periodically promote the newspaper at UAS and Juneau community events.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be enrolled as a UAS student taking a minimum of 6 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student.
