Staff Development Specialist I

Position Overview Staff Development Specialist I (S), Position No. 60048406, Grade NC12, Department of Health and Human Services, Division of J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center, Morganton, North Carolina. Responsibilities Assess training needs of staff at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. Plan, develop, coordinate, implement, document, and evaluate training programs. Deliver instructor‑led, in‑person, and on‑the‑job training. Develop training materials and administer training as needed. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities At least 2 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities or in a behavioral health setting. Experience with training theory, principles, and techniques and with audiovisual aids and other training tools. Ability to assess training needs, develop objectives, recommend training goals, and evaluate student learning. Ability to adapt and communicate information to a wide range of audiences and in various situations. Demonstrated skill in assessing, planning, executing, evaluating, and adapting training to meet organizational needs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. One year of progressive training or teaching experience in a human service or counseling setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Requirements Good physical condition to perform medium work, including occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions. Position is mandatory and may require staying over during adverse weather events. Shift Details 1st shift: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday–Friday, with evening work as needed.
