Memory Care Director

The Memory Care Director is responsible for planning and implementing a specialized program for residents with memory disorders and dementia. The purpose of the program is to encourage memory impaired residents to enjoy a life of meaningful encounters and joyful moments, fostering friendships, and allowing for freedom of movement within a safe and nurturing neighborhood setting. He/she is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising staff and volunteers to work in the Connections Memory Support Neighborhood.

Duties and responsibilities include overseeing the Connections Program, ensuring the appearance of the Neighborhood, producing a quality newsletter and monthly calendar of activities, developing and ensuring implementation of a meaningful Connections program, providing resources/supplies for the special interests of individual residents, actively participating in the assessment process of all Connections residents, establishing and maintaining an effective dementia/memory impairment orientation and in-service program, training, supervising, and evaluating volunteers and ancillary staff, communicating regularly with family members of Connections residents, participating in preparing the annual budget for the Connections Program, promoting and maintaining a safe environment for all community residents, and conducting him/herself in a professional manner at all times.

Minimum qualifications include a minimum of college degree or equivalent, by relevant experience, and must be qualified by experience and/or training to develop and implement a therapeutic & meaningful program that addresses the special needs of residents with memory impairment and promotes dignity, respect, and a sense of community participation and worth. Must demonstrate a solid history and understanding of the issues of aging, specifically those with Alzheimer's disease and related memory disorders, and must be able to read, write, and understand the English language, and communicate it effectively to others.

Required behavior includes appearance being neat, clean, and according to dress code, able to demonstrate a high level of service delivery, able to clearly present information through the spoken word, able to communicate with others in a warm and helpful manner while simultaneously building credibility and rapport, able to work cooperatively with a group of people to achieve goals and objectives, able to be tactful, able to keep an open mind and change opinions on the basis of new information, able to perform a variety of tasks and change focus quickly as demands change, and able to manage transitions effectively from task to task and adapt to varying customer needs.

Physical demands include being physically able to move at least 50 lbs. without assistance, physically able to bend, reach, and work in small areas, physically able to push and pull equipment and furnishings, and physically able to stand for long periods of time.
