Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. In furthering that goal, Highlands has grown with the region from a single location 26 years ago, to 6 locations in Northwest and Northcentral Arkansas today employing more than 800 diverse team members.

Job Summary: Level 1 Clinician with 0-6 +years of experience thatperforms diagnostic ultrasound images, produces documentation, and shares essential information with health care personnel to diagnose and monitor a variety of conditions.

Job Duties / Responsibilities:

• Facilitates diagnostic results by obtaining, reviewing, and bringing together pertinent patient history, physical examination, and supporting clinical data.
• Determine test procedures by reviewing the purpose of the examination. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic function, and images.
• Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
• Comforts patients by explaining procedures and assists with proper positioning.
• Uses highly technical sonography equipment to produce images of structures inside the body.
• Performs quality control tests.
• Effectively communicates with patients, co-workers, supervisors, and radiologists.
• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
• Maintains a clean working environment.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Reports and documents all malfunctions and/or needs for service on all equipment, including troubleshooting problems, calling for service, and communicates the problem to all pertinent team members and supervisors.
• Performs other diagnostic procedures within their scope of practice.
• Trains new employees.
• Cooperates with facility healthcare professionals and complies with facility policies/procedures.
• Assists the Research Department with clinical trial scans.
• Performs other duties, as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Candidate needs to be proficient in echocardiography, vascular, abdomen, GYN, and small parts.
• Performs other diagnostic procedures within their scope of practice.
• Must provide personal vehicle to transport all equipment.
• Willing to travel to any clinic to perform duties as needed.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced Imaging Department.
• Required to be onsite to fulfill job duties. This job requires use of machines and equipment located onsite.
• Must be able to interact and provide services to patients and employees.

Certifications/Licenses/Education/or Experience in a related field:

• Graduate of a JRC-DMS accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
• Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
• Preferred Minimum of 3- 5 years of experience in a hospital or clinical setting
• Current CPR Certification.
• Candidate needs to be proficient in echocardiography, vascular, abdomen, GYN, and small parts.
• Maintains technical competency through continuing education.

Physical Requirements:

• Standing and Walking: Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Lifting and moving patients: Ability to lift, move, and assist patients, often requiring more than 50 pounds.
• Pushing and Pulling: Must be able to push and maneuver heavy imaging equipment and patient transport devices.
• Fine Motor Skills: Requires good hand-eye coordination to operate controls, ingest contrast agents, and handle small objects.
• Repetitive Motions: Frequent use of hand and fingers for operating machinery and adjusting settings.
• Bending and Reaching: Must bend, stoop, twist, and reach to position patients and operate equipment.
• Standing Radiation Exposure: Although shielded, technologists must work near radiation-producing equipment and follow strict safety protocols.
• Must be able to stand for 8 hours; lift 40-pound blocks to shoulder level; have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish structures and isodose displays on a computer monitor. Additionally, must be able to align treatment fields and monitor patients during radiation therapy treatment.
