Retail Licensed Optician

Summary Assists customers with frame selection, fits and dispenses frames. Utilizing technical information to interpret prescription to assist customers with the selection of optical products and services. Pay Class and Pay Pay Class: Full Time Pay: $27 - $40.50 per hour Essential Responsibilities Assist each customer in frame and lens selection while meeting social distance requirements. Ensure compliance with social distancing, cleaning protocols and hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing and covering nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing. Provide customers with accurate product information regarding frames, lens selections, and other services. Provide customers covered by third‑party insurance with accurate information regarding benefits, ensuring proper selection of frames and lenses and informing them of any additional charges not covered. Utilize the SERVE sales process to identify customer needs and establish appropriate lens recommendations, using all available demonstration tools. Analyze and interpret patients’ prescriptions, communicating as necessary with the lab and optometrist to ensure accuracy. Sell, fit, and dispense frames and accessories using accurate measurements, verifying ordered products, and adjusting various optical products in accordance with the Eyewear Presentation. Maintain a clean and orderly dispensing area. Ensure accurate customer pricing for retail customers. Maintain license requirements per state guidelines. Where applicable, provide feedback and guidance to apprentice opticians. Adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and proprietary company policies and procedures, including HIPAA. Participate in training and educational activities necessary to meet departmental goals and professional affiliation requirements. Diligently maintain cleanliness of all equipment, workstations, and the overall facility on a daily basis. Complete additional responsibilities as assigned, as required by changing business needs. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent Experience & Background Must have and maintain applicable state licensure for ophthalmic dispensing. Knowledge and demonstrated abilities in explaining optical products, services, analyzing and interpreting optical prescriptions, fitting, and dispensing. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations to customers, clients, and associates. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions. Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands required for this role include standing, using hands and fingers to handle, feel, pick, or pinch, and frequent talking or hearing. Occasionally the associate may stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, and must frequently lift or move up to 20 pounds. The noise level in this location is moderate due to use of computers, printers, and machines. Vision and Visual Requirements Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Specific terms are set forth in the company’s collective bargaining agreement with a minimum pay rate of $27 per hour plus incentive.
