Position Overview

User Experience applies principles of discovery, research, design, and content strategy to shape how users interact with a product. This role is responsible for leading design initiatives across multiple products and identifying and solving challenges for Paylocity users. You are a storyteller with a diverse skill set, a driver of change, open to new possibilities, impact-oriented, and a strong cultural fit.

• Collaborate with product owners and development teams to guide end-to-end experiences from concept to launch and inform
• Lead small- to medium-sized projects independently, defining project needs and tasks clearly.
• Make expert design decisions, balancing user insights, business goals, technical feasibility, and design principles.
• Facilitate ideation sessions and workshops with designers, stakeholders, and subject matter experts.
• Create and contribute to key design artifacts such as design briefs, user flows, content prototypes, research summaries, and design reviews as needed.
• Conduct in-depth user research, usability testing, provide readouts, and summaries using data to inform product decisions.
• Provide platform-level IA (Information Architecture) recommendations based on deep knowledge of navigation patterns.
• Break down complex problems, identify patterns, and make informed decisions.
• Ensure seamless collaboration by effectively sharing design files with development teams and stakeholders.
• Maintain development quality by tracking bugs and missed requirements.
• Create structured, grid-based designs that are device-appropriate and align with the design system.
• Guide communication across cross-disciplinary teams, demonstrating executive-level communication skills.
• Engage in thought leadership and industry events, sharing expertise and contributing to the UX community.
• Promote transparency and collaboration by proactively sharing information beyond your immediate team or organization.

Education and Experience

• Extensive experience in UX, usability, accessibility, and product design, supported by a degree in a relevant field
• 5-7 years experience in UX or product design primarily for mobile experiences and responsive design.

Required Skills

• Strong visual, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to tackle complex design challenges in undefined problem spaces.
• Proven ability to collaborate with and influence product and engineering teams.
• Extensive UX expertise, with advanced experience in design and system design within complex information architectures.
• Capable of designing for multiple platforms while ensuring product scalability across various environments, including mobile, tablet, responsive design, native applications, accessibility, and localization.
• Experience with using and contributing to design system at scale.

Preferred Skills

• Experience designing for SaaS products in an agile environment.
• Proven ability to mentor and coach team members.
• Experience collaborating with UX Research teams to interpret data and share insights.
• Stay current with design trends, tools, and technologies, adapting to evolving requirements.
• Familiarity with AI patterns and machine learning, with experience partnering with data science teams and implementing referenceable examples.

Soft Skills

• Expert communicator and facilitator when engaging with business stakeholders.
• Relentlessly curious about tech and market trends, with the ability to adapt accordingly.
• Strong advocate for user experience, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
• Skilled at building relationships in highly collaborative environments.

Physical requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.
• Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously
