Threat Fabrication Specialist I – INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY Job Code: 2026:0402-091 | Location: Yuma Proving Ground, AZ | Status: Full Time | Business Sector: Test Range Operations Job Description Perform certified quality welds with ferrous and non‑ferrous metals, assist senior welders with designs and fabrication of 2‑ and 3‑ dimensional target systems, and operate Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs to transfer drawings to Computer Controlled Cutting (CC) machines. Fabricate unique targets and replacement parts from shop drawings, blueprints, plans, sketches, and verbal instructions. Execute layout, setup, cutting, fabrication, and welding using horizontal band saws, chop saws, track torches, plasma, and free‑hand cutting. Install fabricated 2‑ and 3‑ dimensional steel silhouette vehicle targets into predetermined locations on multiple ranges, and fabricate mock target structures representing single‑ and multi‑story buildings using shipping containers. Repair target systems requiring welding or metalwork. Demonstrate willingness to learn and expand knowledge in welding and target fabrication. Perform other duties as required to complete the mission. Covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Qualifications Pay Rate: $32.88 High school diploma or equivalent. AWS D1.1 Certification in all positions using mild steel, one inch material 7018. 1 year of experience as a journeyman welder. Job Skills Requirements Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office. Heavy equipment mechanic training and experience from technical school or military training. Toolbox and tools required to perform welding tasks. No current disciplinary actions in personnel file. Ability to travel for off‑site duties up to 30% of the time and stay up to 3 weeks at a time. Physical Requirements Pass pre‑employment drug screening, physical and periodic retests. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for tasks. Work in extreme weather, including summer temperatures up to ~120°F. Work long and varied hours. Frequent bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, standing, climbing, and stooping, sometimes for long periods. Ascend and descend equipment. Visually distinguish colors. Lift and transport 75 lbs unassisted over uneven ground for 50 feet. Job Requirements Speak, write, read, and understand English. Well‑mannered customer service attitude. Additional Desirable Qualifications 3+ years of experience as a welder. Class A CDL. Ability to communicate with customers, coworkers, support personnel, military, government, management, and senior officials in a professional, positive, and customer‑focused manner.
