Packaging Designer $70-$95K

This Packaging company is seeking an experienced Industrial Packaging Designer to join their growing team in Indianapolis. This is an exciting opportunity for a packaging professional who enjoys designing innovative solutions that protect products, reduce costs, improve sustainability, and create value for customers.

In this role, you will work closely with sales, operations, manufacturing, and customers to develop packaging systems that optimize product protection, transportation efficiency, and overall supply chain performance.

• Design and develop industrial packaging solutions including corrugated, foam, wood crates, containers, reusable packaging systems, and sustainable packaging alternatives
• Create packaging specifications based on product requirements, shipping methods, and environmental conditions
• Evaluate and improve packaging performance to reduce damage, waste, and overall costs
• Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and sales teams to support customer projects and new product launches
• Assess packaging materials and work with suppliers to identify the most effective solutions
• Ensure compliance with domestic and international shipping, packaging, and safety requirements
• Support sustainability initiatives focused on recyclability, material reduction, and reusable packaging programs
• Develop packaging drawings, BOMs, standards, and technical documentation
• Provide technical expertise to resolve packaging-related challenges across production, warehousing, and distribution

• Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
• 3+ years of experience designing industrial, protective, or transit packaging solutions
• Strong understanding of corrugated, wood, foam, plastic, and metal packaging materials
• Experience with packaging test standards including ISTA, ASTM, and ISO
• Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ArtiosCAD, or similar platforms
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management abilities
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across multiple departments
