Lead HVAC Service Technician

Location: Des Moines, IA
Compensation: Up to $40 per hour, based on experience, plus performance incentives and benefits

About the Opportunity

A growing residential HVAC company serving the Des Moines area is seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Service Technician to join its team.

This is a key customer-facing and revenue-generating position for a skilled technician who can confidently diagnose and repair residential HVAC systems while delivering an exceptional homeowner experience.

The ideal candidate has at least four to five years of HVAC service experience, is comfortable independently managing a service truck and daily route, and knows how to build trust with customers. This person will play an important role in growing service revenue, expanding maintenance membership enrollment, and identifying qualified opportunities for system replacement.

What You’ll Do

• Respond to residential HVAC service calls promptly and professionally
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair heating, cooling, and ventilation systems
• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and seasonal tune-ups
• Clearly explain system conditions, repair options, and maintenance recommendations to homeowners
• Help customers understand when replacement may be a better long-term solution than continued repairs
• Generate qualified replacement leads for the installation team
• Educate customers about maintenance membership programs and enroll interested homeowners
• Respond to emergency and after-hours service calls as needed
• Complete accurate invoices, service records, and job documentation
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked company vehicle
• Follow company safety procedures and industry best practices
• Deliver a five-star customer experience on every service call

Required Qualifications

• Four to five or more years of residential HVAC service experience
• Previous experience in a lead technician or senior service technician role
• Proven ability to independently manage a service truck, daily route, and customer appointments
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across a variety of residential HVAC systems
• EPA certification
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Professional appearance and a customer-focused attitude
• Ability to confidently and ethically discuss repair, maintenance, upgrade, and replacement options
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong organizational and time-management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• NATE certification
• Experience with ServiceTitan or similar field service management software
• Experience servicing high-efficiency HVAC systems, heat pumps, and modern controls
• Strong sales aptitude with a consultative, customer-first approach
• Experience promoting maintenance agreements or membership programs
