Medical Specialist - Optometrist

Position Summary

The Physician is responsible for delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care in an ambulatory clinic setting. This role provides evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and coordination of care for patients while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Physician practices independently within scope while contributing to quality improvement, patient education, and overall clinical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

• Provide comprehensive primary care services, including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, laboratory work, and imaging studies
• Perform minor outpatient procedures in accordance with clinical privileges
• Assess patient needs and coordinate specialty referrals, diagnostics, and inpatient care when appropriate
• Deliver patient and family education on health maintenance, disease prevention, treatment plans, and follow-up care
• Ensure accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the medical record

Collaboration & Team-Based Care

• Work independently while collaborating with physicians, advanced providers, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals
• Provide consultation and clinical guidance to other providers as needed
• Supervise and support clinical staff to ensure high-quality patient care delivery
• Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and coordination

Quality & Compliance

• Deliver care in accordance with established clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and clinical program development
• Support compliance with federal and state healthcare regulations, including patient privacy (HIPAA), infection control, and safety standards
• Participate in audits, credentialing, and ongoing regulatory readiness activities

Professional Development & Engagement

• Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing medical education (CME)
• Participate in staff meetings, committees, and organizational initiatives
• Contribute to clinical program development and performance improvement efforts

Patient Advocacy & Service Excellence

• Provide compassionate, respectful, and culturally competent care to all patients
• Promote a positive patient experience through effective communication and engagement
• Support equitable access to care regardless of patient background or ability to pay

Qualifications

Licensure & Certifications

• Active, unrestricted medical license in the state of practice
• Current DEA registration
• Ability to obtain and maintain medical staff privileges
• Must be eligible for participation with public and private insurance programs

Education & Experience

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school
• Current and valid state license to practice optometry
• Strong clinical and diagnostic skills
• Excellent communication and patient care abilities
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a clinical setting
• Eligible for credentialing and participation with public and private health plans.
