Charge Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) FT NIGHT

RN Clinical Charge Nurse – Wellstar Night Shift – United States of America The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift to assure successful safe delivery of care. The Charge Nurse serves as a caregiver, often taking modified patient care assignments, and acts as a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities Monitors equipment inventory, location and utilization to ensure staff have the tools needed. Participates in planning and requesting resources for high‑quality care and assists in staffing during unexpected shortages or surges in census. Plans for the care of patients across the continuum while providing direct patient care. Develops protocols and procedures in collaboration with care managers and other members of the healthcare team to achieve best practice outcomes. Makes patient assignments, considering new grads, float and patient type. Reviews daily discharge/length of stay and rounds with physicians/surgeons. Assigns surgery beds in conjunction with the surgery schedule and consults with supervisor nursing administration on bed flow and availability. Manages assignments for emergency services sections and waiting rooms that open at different times. Rounds on every patient daily to evaluate quality and appropriateness of care, implementing corrective action and peer coaching when necessary. Provides oversight of the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence‑based practice. Facilitates relationship‑based patient‑centered care, coordinating care through effective partnerships and comprehensive hand‑off communication processes. Promotes interdisciplinary communication, documentation, and a respectful, inclusive clinical environment. Participates in performance improvement initiatives, research utilization, and shared governance at all levels. Prepares and maintains patient, family, and staff confidentiality and corporate compliance. Serves as a preceptor or mentor for nurses and staff to ensure a qualified future workforce. Promotes evidence‑based practice and nursing research, including participation in value analysis and data collection. Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all Wellstar policies and standards of work. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing with an Associate Degree/Diploma (required) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred). Active RN license required; additional certifications upon hire unless otherwise stated. Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor preferred. Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN – Multi‑state Compact required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Preferred or ACLS – Instructor/Provisional Preferred.
