Registered Nurse Cath Lab

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cath Lab provides specialized nursing care in an acute care hospital setting, focusing on interventional cardiac catheterization procedures. This role involves patient assessment, medication administration including procedural sedation, monitoring of cardiac rhythms, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The RN ensures safe and effective care during diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterizations and supports the overall functioning of the Cath Lab unit. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care during interventional cardiac catheterization procedures including diagnostic catheterizations and right/left heart catheterizations.
• Administer and monitor procedural sedation safely and effectively.
• Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias during procedures.
• Monitor pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz catheters and hemodynamic status.
• Circulate during procedures ensuring patient safety and procedural efficiency.
• Document all patient care and procedure details accurately using Cerner electronic medical records.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, technologists, and other healthcare professionals in the Cath Lab.
• Participate in on-call rotation and float within scope to meet facility needs.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies and adhere to infection control and safety standards.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience; first-time Cath Lab RNs accepted.
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Experience with interventional cardiac Cath Lab procedures including circulating and diagnostic catheterizations.
• Proficient in procedural sedation administration and monitoring.
• Ability to interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias.
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic health record system.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in a Magnet hospital or Level I trauma center environment.
• Previous experience working in an acute care Cath Lab setting.
• Additional certifications related to cardiac care or critical care nursing.

Special Considerations:

• On-call availability is required as needed.
• Floating to other units within the nurse's scope may be necessary to meet facility needs.
• Must work 2-3 weekends per contract.
• RTO (Return to Office) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.
• Parking permit required but provided at no cost.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of three 12-hour day shifts (0630-1900).
• Block scheduling requests can be discussed with the manager.
• Guaranteed hours subject to client call-off policies with possible on-call substitutions.
