Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of their professional license, and with minimal supervision. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans, explains procedures and treatments to patients, and provides necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory, oxygen, and aerosol devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Conduct suctioning using oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods.
• Monitor patients using oximetry and capnography.
• Review chest x-rays for further evaluation.
• Perform pulmonary function studies as per policy.
• Assist with procedures relating to respiratory care, including bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Perform tracheostomy care and manage endotracheal tube insertion and removal.
• Conduct arterial puncture for ventilation efficiency assessment.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Record treatments and patient responses accurately in patient charts.
• Communicate effectively with attending physicians regarding patient therapy.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging and documentation.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Valid Respiratory Therapist License.
• Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.
• BLS and ACLS certification required.
