Direct Support Professional (DSP)

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you could be wearing many hats. A DSP provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes and out in the community. Responsibilities include: Teaching the individuals we serve how to complete a given task. Assisting with daily living activities such as housekeeping, meal and menu preparation, grocery shopping, day‑to‑day finances, etc. Assisting with personal hygiene (e.g., bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding, toileting, positioning when necessary). Providing transportation to delegated activities, including doctor appointments, community outings, shopping and vacations. Documenting and administering medication and other health‑related tasks. Reporting to your supervisor any suspected need for medical attention, evidence of abuse, neglect, and other health and safety issues. Building a trusting relationship with the individuals, becoming a supportive friend or extended family member.
