Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Nurse Job – 13-Week Contract in Schenectady, NY

Join an on-site medical-surgical telemetry team as a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) in Schenectady, New York. Provide compassionate care to adult patients with complex medical and surgical needs during this 13-week travel nursing assignment. This opportunity is based in a 32-bed unit serving patients with pneumonia, COPD, advanced pulmonary disease, and post-surgical recovery needs. Schenectady is located in New York’s Capital Region, offering convenient access to Albany, vibrant arts and cultural attractions, historic neighborhoods, and outdoor recreation.

Travel RN Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250
• Start Date: November 30, 2026
• Duration: 13 weeks, ending February 27, 2027
• Schedule: Approximately 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., including a 30-minute unpaid break
• Unit: 32-bed medical-surgical telemetry unit
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Additional Scheduling: Holiday rotation; no call; no self-scheduling
• Floating: Travelers will be first to float to like units

Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN Requirements

• Registered Nurse license in New York; candidates awaiting licensure may be considered based on clinical qualifications
• At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical telemetry experience; 2 years of specialty experience is preferred and supports expedited consideration
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; certification may be obtained before the start date
• Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not required
• Ability to work night shifts, every other weekend, holiday rotations, and floating assignments as needed
• Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and collaboration skills

Travel Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for medical-surgical and telemetry patients in a fast-paced inpatient setting
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize changes in patient condition, escalating concerns appropriately
• Care for patients with pneumonia, COPD, advanced pulmonary disease, and post-surgical needs
• Manage IV pumps, infusions, tracheostomies, BiPAP, CPAP, oxygen weaning, nebulizer treatments, and inhaler therapy
• Perform phlebotomy, venipuncture, and peripheral IV starts
• Assist with patient transports and support transfers to higher levels of care, including ICU transfers
• Administer medications and treatments safely while maintaining accurate clinical documentation
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team and provide patient and family education
• Float to comparable units and adapt to changing patient-care needs when requested
