Learn more at OverviewAs an entry-level Engineering Technician / Designer for the Electrical Distribution team at TechServ, you will begin with 2-3 weeks of hands-on job training. You will gain industry certification(s), and become proficient with the client's proprietary CAD software. After completing training, you will work under the general supervision of Project Coordinators to create high-quality designs for newbuilds, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects, including: electrical distribution design, transmission, and substation design. You will work as part of a team to support various project phases, including: planning, site evaluation, design analysis, report preparation, construction documentation, and more. Over time, you will work with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients. Travel is required for this position (approximately 20% of the time).This position serves as an entry point for additional levels of growth throughout the company (e.g., Engineering Technician II, II, IV). The ideal candidate for this role has a strong interest in working with technology and working in a team setting in an open office plan.Key Roles and ResponsibilitiesUse proprietary drafting software (CAD) for client projects, including newbuilds, alterations, redevelopments, etc. and work with Engineers to implement design changes into the systemExecute a variety of electrical design assignments using the client's distribution standard drawings and comply with NES proceduresExecute changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projectsAnalyze reports, drawings, and tests to plan and design projectsInterpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirementsReview design drawings for quality assurance (to ensure projects are within scope, budget, and schedule)Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlinesWork with leaders and team members to facilitate/support internal change efforts to increase organizational effectivenessAssist with the set-up of projects in applicable project management systems and ensure accurate data entryTravel to regional job sites per client specifications (20%)Qualifications and SkillsProficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Solid Works - preferred, but not requiredProficiency in Microsoft Office such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and TeamsAbility to work collaboratively with others, including, but not limited to: Project Managers, Engineers, and other Tech/DesignersKnowledge of electrical design, calculations, and design systems is a plusExperience working with electrical distribution systems is a plusExcellent written & verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple tasksStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detailEducation and Experience RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED equivalentAssociate's Degree in Drafting / Design Technology (or similar) is preferred, but not requiredMicrosoft Office Suite (emphasis on Excel)Employee BenefitsComprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance401K with Company matchPaid Time Off (PTO)9 Paid Company HolidaysPhysical RequirementsProlonged sitting and standing are requiredAbility to occasionally lift, pull, carry, and push items weighing up to 50 poundsAbility to handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous mannerRequires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and Company needsEnvironmental/Working ConditionsWorks in a routine office environment; in-office settingAbility to work extended hours, as neededTravel will be required at a minimum of 20% of the timeCandidates must have a valid driver's license and a clear driving record.
