ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

The ICU Registered Nurse will provide exceptional patient care in a high-acuity environment. This role requires critical thinking and advanced clinical skills to manage complex patient needs effectively. The position offers opportunities for professional development within an advanced care team.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret dysrhythmias and manage related interventions.
• Obtain and interpret 12 lead EKG/ECG.
• Administer IV insulin protocols and manage patients' intake and output.
• Assess urine output and manage IV access, including blood product administration.
• Start and maintain IVs and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips as needed.
• Provide care for patients experiencing CVAs and acute strokes.
• Manage care for ventilated patients and handle high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC).
• Address pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism, and respiratory failure effectively.
• Implement infection prevention measures and adhere to isolation precautions and PPE guidelines.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience required.
• Traveler experience preferred, but first-time travelers will be considered.
• Patient ratio experience of 1:3 required.
• Proficiency in Meditech is required.
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and Stroke Life Support.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Experience with GI surgery, acute kidney injury, and chronic/acute renal failure.
• Knowledge in arterial line management, central line care, and PICC line management.
• Familiarity with TPN/lipids, continuous IV sedation, and emergency medications.
• Skills in assisting with chest tube insertion/removal and managing BiPAP/CPAP.
• Experience with fresh tracheostomy care and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).
• Phlebotomy skills and knowledge of INR, PT/PTT.
• Ability to recognize infections in immunosuppressed patients.

Job Details

• Target Patient Ratios: 1:3 (an aide provided for 4 or more patients).
• Shifts: 12-hour nights from 18:45 to 07:15.
• Contract lengths accepted: 13 weeks.
• Weekend Requirement: 12 weekend shifts per contract.
• Floating requirement to step-down ICU and ICU units based on census needs.

Patient Diagnoses

• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Active GI Bleeds
• Stroke and post-stroke respiratory failure
• Pneumonia-related complications
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) as needed

Unit Details

• 12 lead ECG monitoring and camera in every room.
• Continuous cardiac monitoring with pulse oximetry and temperature.

Orientation

The selected candidate will undergo a 24-hour unit orientation, along with a comprehensive hospital orientation during the first week, which requires daily availability for classes.

Dress Code

Scrubs: Black (not provided).
