SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Lead Club Kids counselor is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the Club Kids Program at the school site (either Spring Hill or Waterbury). The position will be scheduled Mondays‑Fridays, 3:15‑6pm; 3–5 days preferred; 8–11 hours/week – hours may vary based on the school schedule. $15.50 per hour DOQ. Benefits include free individual fitness center pass, free individual pool pass, 25% off programs (certain restrictions apply).

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Interest in working in the recreation industry with Park District participants. Must be 18 years of age or older. Preferred – three years of experience in working with children. Must communicate effectively with parents, children, supervisors, and school officials. Must self‑control and composure in difficult situations. Must be punctual and dependable. Must understand principles of customer service and client relations. Must understand principles of risk management and safety. Must have knowledge of age characteristics and appropriate activities for children aged 5‑12. Must demonstrate judgment and awareness of surroundings. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must self‑motivated and responsible. Must follow directions and communicate in English verbally and in writing. Must handle children’s behaviors positively and appropriately. Must hold CPR/First Aid certification. Must demonstrate leadership qualities. Must be energetic and manage a group of participants encouraging social growth, safety, and fun.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Communicate with parents, children, supervisors, and school officials. Provide safe and fun environment for program participants. Lead and manage daily operations of the program. Develop routine each day of Club Kids with assistance from counselors. Self‑control and composure in difficult situations. Use polite, pleasant voice. Promote customer service relations and open communication. Prepare reports as assigned. Report for duty as assigned and find suitable substitute when necessary. Participate in mandatory pre‑employment and in‑service training. Uphold and enforce risk management and safety procedures. Improve knowledge of safety by confronting, correcting, and preventing unsafe behavior. Perform good judgement and special projects as assigned.
