Job Description

The first level of the Equipment Maintenance Series is responsible for performing skilled work in the preventative maintenance and mechanical repair of vehicles and equipment. Responsibilities may include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of vehicles and machines; developing a maintenance schedule; coordinating equipment inventory; welding/fabricating; operating applicable equipment and tools; and maintaining records and repairs.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Responds to service calls; inspects, maintains, and repairs a variety of heavy, medium, and light duty vehicles and machines; develops maintenance schedules; operates applicable equipment and tools; and welds and fabricates parts and materials to facilitate assigned project and departmental operations.

Maintains equipment inventory, to include monitoring stock levels, restocking supplies, and testing equipment to ensure operational effectiveness.

Facilitates departmental operations by maintaining work areas, and preparing and maintaining reports, records, logs, and other documentation; assists with snow & ice removal when required.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Education and/or Experience

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Associate's degree or two years technical certificate in Vehicle Maintenance and three years equipment maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

Incumbents in this class typically require:

• Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement and no restrictions.

• MN Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

· Skilled vehicle and/or equipment maintenance and repair practices and procedures in assigned area of responsibility;

· Applicable tools and equipment;

· Diagnostic devices utilized in identifying vehicle and/or equipment malfunctions;

· Occupational hazards and safety precautions;

· Recordkeeping principles;

· Computers and related software applications;

· Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations;

· Customer service principles;

· Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment;

· Modern office technology.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

· Using applicable tools and equipment;

· Maintaining and repairing vehicles and equipment;

· Detecting and diagnosing vehicle and equipment malfunctions;

· Maintaining operational records and reports;

· Providing customer service;

· Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications;

· Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions, such as, mechanical parts, electrical currents, and vibrations; atmospheric conditions, such as fumes, odors, gases, and poor ventilation; hazardous materials, such as chemicals, blood, and other bodily fluids; extreme temperatures; inadequate lighting; work space-related movement restrictions; and intense noise; incumbents may also be expected to travel to external locations/organizations.

Hourly Salary Range: $28.14 - $37.82
