Job Description

Sirius Staffing is seeking an Environmental Specialist for a position in Midland, TX. In this role, you will support the Permian Basin Environmental Specialist in Shale & Tight new-drill activities across Texas development areas and one New Mexico area. This role protects company execution by securing approvals, reducing compliance and schedule risk, and translating environmental requirements into clear, field-ready actions that support safe, responsible operations.

Work Schedule: 100% On-site 9/80 Schedule

The Environmental Specialist will provide ongoing handover and execution of HSE deliverables from spud through POP activities, with responsibility for permitting-related work, environmental surveys, site reviews, pit and pond usage data, reserve pit inspections, and regulatory compliance support.


Core Deliverables

• Identify constraints, survey requirements, mitigation needs, and regulatory triggers early in the project lifecycle.
• Manage permits, agency coordination, APD support, conservation reviews, floodplain approvals, pit registrations, and conditions-of-approval tracking for pits.
• Address biological, cultural, WOTUS, karst, threatened and endangered habitat, nesting, surface-use, construction, and compliance requirements before field activity begins.
• Complete Clear-to-Construct reviews, constraint maps, permit-condition reviews, seasonal restriction documentation, and field guidance.
• Maintain environmental inspections, agency reporting, and environmental commitment verification.
• Provide permitting support for Shale & Tight development activities from spud through POP.
• Track and maintain pit and pond usage data.
• Complete reserve pit inspections.
• Coordinate and review environmental surveys and site reviews for new development areas.
• Support the New Mexico Environmental Specialist as needed.
• Provide environmental advice and recommendations to project stakeholders.
• Project manage assigned environmental activities and deliverables.
• Validate charges as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Degree in a Health, Environment, and Safety-related field.
• Working knowledge of Texas and New Mexico environmental requirements related to onshore oil and gas planning, drilling, completions, and construction.
• Knowledge of key regulatory agencies and requirements, including BLM, NMOCD, TXRRC, APDs, Conditions of Approval, Environmental Assessments, floodplain permits, pit registrations, conservation agreements, and operational compliance.
• Ability to identify biological, cultural, WOTUS, karst, threatened and endangered habitat, nest, surface-use, and seasonal constraints early and translate risks into clear mitigation actions.
• Experience supporting Clear-to-Construct reviews, field guidance, permit-condition verification, and environmental requirements affecting construction, drilling, completions, and operations.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with regulatory agencies, contractors, land teams, asset teams, engineering, permitting, portfolio development, and field operations.
• Strong ability to track approvals, agency responses, environmental commitments, permit conditions, and project deliverables.
• Strong discipline in environmental inspections, reporting, audit support, permit-condition tracking, and maintaining defensible regulatory documentation.
• Ability to scope, coordinate, review, and challenge environmental survey work, technical reports, contractor deliverables, schedules, and quality.
• Strong business and operational judgment, including the ability to prioritize work based on schedule, cost, compliance, agency credibility, and license-to-operate risk.
• Clear, concise communication skills with the ability to explain complex requirements in field-ready terms, make recommendations, and escalate risks decisively.
• Strong attention to detail, particularly when working with field agents, gathering required permits, and helping ensure wildlife is not negatively affected.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal direction.
• Extremely schedule-driven, with an understanding that construction delays are costly.
• Willingness to work in the oil and gas industry.

Preferred Qualifications

• Regulatory environmental experience, particularly with New Mexico regulations.
• Prior oil and gas industry experience.
• AI and digital skills; this is a technology-heavy role requiring strong organization and comfort working with digital tools.
