Position Title Physician Assistant, Specialty (Orthopedic) Job Overview The Physician Assistant, Specialty (Orthopedic) is responsible for promoting and maintaining health by providing medical services under the supervision of a Market Clinical Director and/or other physician. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to function both independently and in collaboration with other health care professionals. The role consults with the clinical leadership team to ensure compliance with guidelines, participates in risk and quality management programs, clinical meetings, and other meetings, and adheres to departmental goals, standards of performance, regulatory compliance, and quality patient care. Key Responsibilities Contributes to physician's effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues, providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations, recommending options and courses of action, and implementing physician directives. Assesses patient health by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations, obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories. Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests such as x-rays and laboratory studies and interpreting test results. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records. Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations, suturing, and managing wounds and infections. Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens, providing normal growth and development information, discussing family planning, and providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living, while promoting wellness and health maintenance. Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans. Maintains a safe and clean working environment, complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence, and advising management on needed actions. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies. Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Orthopedic duties include identifying and managing orthopedic patients, ordering appropriate orthopedic imaging/tests, and administering orthopedic-specific therapeutic interventions as needed. Other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated record of consistently achieving clinical performance metrics in current role. Must be caring, empathetic, and have great listening skills. Detail-oriented, with the ability to pay close attention to patient charts, medications, and follow-up on details of patient care. Basic computer skills and some knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, database, and presentation software. Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally, and nationwide up to 75% of the time. Spoken and written fluency in English; bilingual a plus. This job requires use and exercise of independent judgment. Education and Experience Criteria Master’s Degree required. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required. Current DEA number for schedule II‑V controlled substances may be required based on state of practice. Minimum one (1) plus year experience working in an orthopedic practice. Successful completion of a program recognized by the Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant, appropriate state licensure, and certification. Salary Range $111,140 – $158,771. Final compensation depends on experience, education, location, and other factors. Eligibility for bonuses or commissions also possible.
