Summary The Radiology Service Chief provides executive leadership and oversight for all aspects of the Radiology Service – including clinical operations, education, research, and administrative functions. United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia Residency Training: Physicians must have completed a residency program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification Approved residencies include: ACGME‑approved programs AOA‑approved programs Other residencies with at least five years of verified U.S. practice, deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) eligible during ACGME/AOA‑accredited training programs; PRPs must hold a full physician license and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they have a scope of practice that allows certain restricted duties under supervision Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred Experience: 2-3 years of progressive management and leadership experience. Reference: For more information on this qualification standard, please visit Physical Requirements: Physical examination will be conducted based on the physical requirements of the position (standing, walking, hearing, speaking, writing, reading, logical thinking). An examination prior to placement is required. Duties The Chief ensures delivery of high‑quality, safe, and efficient diagnostic and interventional imaging services to veterans. Ensures full compliance with all Veterans Health Administration (VHA) directives, handbooks, and national radiology program requirements. Ensures adherence to VHA imaging standards, modality protocols, radiation safety rules, and accreditation standards. Coordinates with the National Radiology Program Office (NRPO) on national initiatives, reporting, and clinical practice updates. Supports VA‑wide quality, patient safety, and High Reliability Organization (HRO) programs. Implements VHA strategic initiatives including modernization efforts and enterprise imaging technologies. Ensures compliance with VHA peer review, quality management, and adverse event reporting requirements. Collaborates with VISN leadership for workload sharing and imaging optimization efforts. Ensures participation in VHA readiness, emergency response, and continuity of operations planning. Directs and coordinates all Radiology Service activities: develops and implements policies, manages budget and resources, ensures compliance with VHA directives, and oversees credentialing and privileging. Maintains standards for diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures: ensures timely interpretation and reporting, monitors quality metrics and patient safety. Supports graduate medical education programs, promotes continuing education, and facilitates research activities. Chair or participate in QA and Peer Review committees; implements performance improvement initiatives. Serves as liaison between Radiology Service and other departments; represents Radiology Service on facility and VISN committees. Reports to the Chief of Staff and collaborates with Associate Chief of Radiology, Chief Technologist, Health Systems Specialist, and other section leaders. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm.
