Bus Mechanic

Position: Mechanic Supervisor: Shop Supervisor General Job Description Knowledgeable of automotive engines, diesel engines, electrical systems, power equipment and related vehicle equipment, use of tools and equipment utilized in the transportation department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for minor and major repairs of all district vehicles. Inspects, diagnose, and make necessary repairs on all district vehicles. Informs the Shop Supervisor about problems within the Transportation Department. Shall report to the Shop Supervisor misuse or suspected misuse of district property. Shall maintain an effective working relationship with district employees. Have a positive attitude and communicate with students, parents, teachers, co-workers and supervisors. Shall adhere to approved Board policy and administrative directives. Prepare work orders. Sweep and clean shop area as needed. Answer telephones and radios as needed and to know daily operation of the Transportation Department and fill in as needed. Maintain records as needed. Accept other responsibilities and duties as deemed necessary by supervisor. Additional Duties and Responsibilities Must be able to get Commercial drivers license within six months of hire. Will be required to drive bus and transport students as needed. Work with Transportation Supervisor & Asst. Supervisor. Become knowledgeable in state and federal requirements for Bus repairs. Qualifications Have a working knowledge of basic shop operations. Must be 18 years of age. Must have 1-2 years shop experience or 1-2 years of Tech/College training in related field. Possess a valid commercial driver's license and a clean driving record. Pass pre-employment drug test. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds on occasion), reaching, squatting, and kneeling. Equipment/Technology Handled Gasoline and Diesel Fuels, Lubricants, Washing Equipment and be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology. Work Environment Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self‑motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work may be required.
