Day - 10 Hour (United States of America) Full-Time, 10 Hour Days - Palo Alto, CA Clinic Days: Monday - Friday Overview The Gastrointestinal Oncology Nurse Coordinator (RN) is a full‑time, exempt position. The role is intended for an experienced registered nurse who is motivated to function in a fast‑paced collaborative team with MDs, APPs, RNs, medical scribes and medical assistants. The team provides clinical care to patients with malignant gastrointestinal cancer and is dedicated to finding treatments that offer the greatest efficacy with the fewest complications. What you will do Provide age‑specific, quality, patient‑centered care to all patients using the nursing process and standards of nursing practice with sensitivity and respect for the diversity of the human experience. Expedite appropriate care and treatment, using critical reasoning and astute clinical judgment, particularly for patients with complex or potentially life‑threatening conditions. Assess, triage, and provide nursing consultation, perform follow‑up and care coordination during face‑to‑face encounters or via telecommunications technologies. Apply appropriate nursing interventions such as identifying and clarifying patient needs, conducting health education, promoting patient advocacy, coordinating nursing and other health services, assisting patients to navigate the health‑care system, and evaluating patient outcomes. Focus on patient safety and quality of nursing care during each encounter. Interact with patients during face‑to‑face encounters or through a variety of telecommunication strategies in the virtual environment, often establishing long‑term relationships. Act as partner, advocate, and advisor, assisting patients/families in optimal health‑care management while respecting culture, values, and treatment preferences. Facilitate continuity of care using the nursing process, interprofessional collaboration, and coordination of access to appropriate health‑care services and community resources across the care continuum. Collaborate with inpatient and other clinic staff to develop educational materials appropriate for the patient population, assess learning needs, and develop curriculum/content accordingly. Demonstrate leadership by inspiring others, acknowledging staff contributions, promoting team building, and participating in staff competency development. Maximize productivity by focusing on goals, priorities, and effective time management. Pursue lifelong learning to update and expand clinical, organizational, and professional knowledge, skills, and abilities. Utilize performance improvement methodology to design data collection systems/processes and identify opportunities to improve patient care/service. Other duties, including on‑call responsibilities, as assigned. Education Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college/university (required). Experience Qualifications Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related registered nurse (RN) work experience. Ambulatory experience preferred. Oncology experience strongly recommended. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge in specialty area of practice. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in assigned work area. Knowledge of current theories, principles, practices, standards, emerging technologies, techniques, and approaches in the nursing profession and the health‑care system. Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, standards, guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies, and internal policies governing nursing care. Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights. Knowledge of medical terminology and principles of health promotion, risk reduction, and disease prevention/management; familiarity with medications and common dosages, effects, and adverse reactions. Demonstrated skills in teaching, educating, problem‑solving, and critical thinking. Demonstrated skills in translating complex medical terminology for patients and answering questions. Demonstrated communication and effective interaction skills with others in challenging situations. Demonstrated project development/management skills, if applicable. Ability to anticipate, assess, plan for, and manage physical, psychological, social needs, and quality of life of patient and family/caregiver. Ability to apply a professional nursing code of ethics and professional guidelines to clinical practice. Ability to evaluate and modify a patient care plan to meet individual needs. Ability to integrate patient care with other members of the interdisciplinary team and provide direction/guidance to non‑licensed personnel in the assigned area of responsibility. Licenses and Certifications California Registered Nurse (RN) license. Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Blood Borne Pathogens: Category I – tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
