Principal Application System Analyst

Optomi, in partnership with a leading health insurance network, is seeking an experienced Principal Application Systems Analyst to support API integration and development for a State Health Plan program. This highly technical role requires recent, hands‑on experience with IBM API Connect and DataPower, strong requirements‑gathering skills, and the ability to translate technical needs into clear, actionable documentation. The ideal candidate will have a development background and collaborate with stakeholders and developers to document API requirements, create API drafts, and ensure development teams have the information needed to deliver solutions efficiently with minimal rework. Experience of the right candidate: Recent, hands‑on experience with IBM API Connect within the past five years. Experience with IBM DataPower. Strong technical analysis skills, with the ability to understand API development requirements and translate them into detailed technical documentation. Hands‑on experience using the API Connect management interface to create API drafts and document API specifications. Demonstrated experience gathering, analyzing, and documenting complex technical requirements. Understanding of API request and response information, endpoint specifications, and the information developers need to implement API integrations. Ability to collaborate effectively across business, analyst, and development teams. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced technical environment. Responsibilities of the right candidate: Facilitate technical requirements‑gathering sessions with business stakeholders, application teams, and technical partners to support API integration and development initiatives. Utilize IBM API Connect, including the API Manager interface, to create API drafts and document required API specifications. Gather and document API details, including request and response structures, endpoints, and other information needed to support development. Translate business requirements, technical needs, and system requirements into detailed functional designs and development‑ready documentation. Collaborate closely with developers to ensure API requirements are complete, accurate, and actionable before development begins. Analyze existing systems, application designs, business rules, and data elements to identify gaps, dependencies, risks, and potential impacts. Evaluate upstream and downstream system impacts associated with proposed changes and enhancements. Prioritize requirements and coordinate implementation needs based on project timelines, technical dependencies, and business objectives. Review technical documentation and functional designs to ensure quality, consistency, traceability, and alignment with enterprise standards. Communicate technical concepts, requirements, risks, and recommendations effectively to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Support solution design, implementation planning, and ongoing application maintenance activities.
