Job Title: Part Time Substitute Custodian

Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent.

Reports to: Assistant Director of Plant Services with input from the Head Custodian and Building Principal

Work Schedule: Up to 8 hours per shift Monday through Friday. Some weekends to cover activities. No more than 130 hours per month.

Position Summary: To provide the staff and students with a safe, attractive, clean and efficient place to operate the programs of the school district.

Essential Duties:

• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and/or vacuuming floors.
• Clean classroom furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces.
• Gather and empty trash.
• Dust furniture, walls, machines, other equipment, and other surfaces.
• Strip, scrub and wax floors.
• Wash windows, walls, and ceilings.
• Clean, sanitize, and supply restrooms.
• Move furniture within the building that may include desks, tables, chairs, bookcases, and filing cabinets.
• Assist head custodian in maintaining outside grounds.
• Sweep, shovel, and/or plow sidewalks.
• Open, close and secure the building as needed.
• Load and unload supplies.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Work cooperatively with others.
• Occasional changing of ceiling tiles and light bulbs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Certification/Licensure: Must have and maintain a valid drivers' license.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Must be able to understand and follow directions both written and verbal.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
• Applicant subject to a pre-work physical screening test.
• Must be able to work all shifts and overtime when needed.

Working Conditions:

• Climate controlled or warmer work environment.
• Occasional overtime as related to snow removal.

Physical Demands:

• Must be in good physical condition and able to work at varying heights ranging from 6' to 24'.
• Requires climbing ladders, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds up and down stairways and length of hallway.

Will be required to efficiently operate equipment such as floor scrubbing machines, we and/or dry vacuums, automatic floor scrubbers, snow blowers, etc.

• Requires considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting and lifting of classroom furniture. Frequent bending and twisting at neck and trunk.
• Must be able to perform a variety of manual tasks involving repetition. Ability to reach above the head and forward 0 to 24 inches and on occasion up to 36 inches. Must be able to tolerate exposure to chemicals used in general cleaning applications.
