Overview Yale Health is a multidisciplinary health maintenance organization located on campus that serves approximately 49,000 members—including students, staff, faculty, and their families—from every state and many countries. The Obstetrics & Gynecology Department delivers comprehensive women’s health services to over 15,000 members of the Yale community, providing preventive care, office procedures, full‑scope obstetric care, and major and minor gynecological surgery. As part of a unique university‑owned health plan, our clinical teams practice medicine in a patient‑centered way without volume demands or insurance hassles. Additional Responsibilities Provide clinical care and oversight of patient care activities within the department. Develop a vision for the department aligned with Yale Health’s mission and lead the team toward that vision. Organize the department to meet member needs and foster effective interdepartmental collaboration. Recruit, interview, and recommend clinical staff candidates for appointment. Participate in staff hiring and selection for administrative and clinical support positions. Oversee clinician performance, recommend promotions, provide corrective action, and recommend merit increases. Manage 24‑hour on‑call coverage for the department. Establish clinical and operational standards and protocols for the department. Develop departmental budget requests, authorise expenditures, and monitor fund use monthly. Inform staff and senior management of policy and operational issues and conduct regular meetings with department staff. Participate in selected organizational committees, assist the Association Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) in special projects, and represent the department in external communications. Review departmental referrals, maintain partnerships with Yale Medicine and specialty partners. Serve as physician consultant on the infertility benefit and participate in relevant committees at Yale New Haven Hospital. Schedule / Shift Full time; 37.5 hours per week. Evenings, weekends, holidays, and on‑call coverage are required. Required Skills and Abilities Demonstrated clinical skills attested by colleagues and supervisors. Ability to implement standards of quality medical care and monitor health service utilization. Leadership of a collaborative and supportive team with strong communication skills. Support staff through leadership, teaching, coaching, and team building. Provide prompt input and consultation to other clinical staff as needed. Completion of an OB/GYN residency training program. Preferred Skills and Abilities Previous management experience, preferably within an HMO or IPA. Principal Responsibilities Organize the department to ensure convenient access to high‑quality clinical care and assess staffing needs. Use data analysis to plan resources and improve delivery in a patient‑centered model. Design and implement improvement systems for health care delivery. Recruit, interview, and recommend clinicians for appointment, and select staff for support positions. Mentor direct reports and demonstrate excellence through patient care. Establish practice guidelines and quality assurance measures with the Medical Director. Represent the department in committees and organizational projects. Develop and monitor departmental budget requests. Required Education and Experience M.D. or D.O. degree with at least seven years of progressively responsible patient care, including administrative and leadership experience. Qualified for hospital and clinical faculty appointments. Required License(s) or Certification(s) State of Connecticut medical licensure and controlled substance registration; Federal DEA registration. Board certification in obstetrics and gynecology. Physical Requirements Daily use of heavy or oscillating equipment, ability to move, frequently prolonged standing, walking, and low agility. Requires a voice, articulate speech, and the ability to respond quickly to patient needs. Health Requirements Must meet specific immunization and health screening requirements for direct or indirect exposure to patients, including MMR, varicella, TB screening, COVID vaccine per university policy, hepatitis B vaccine, and annual flu vaccination.
