Excavator Operator/Back Filler

Metro Construction has been a leader in the underground utilities industry in the Sioux Falls area for the last 30 years. We are searching for excavator operators with experience around underground utility work. Our fleet of equipment at Metro Construction is the best of its class in this industry. Our goal is to have all employees home with their family each night. Most job sites are located within 30 miles of Sioux Falls giving our employees the ability to go home every night.

Roles and Responsibilities of an Excavator Operator Include:

• Must have backfilling experience and meet highest expectations of solid quality work
• Efficiently and accurately dig and backfill trenches for the installation of sewer and water mainlines and services
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamlines work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality production and ensure safety
• Visually inspect work areas to ensure that the work can efficiently and safely be completed
• Lift and set trench boxes
• Bulk excavation and truck loading
• Communicate with the foreman and pipe layer

Basic Qualifications

• General knowledge of underground utility work including materials, methods, and tools involved in the installation
• Ability to maintain equipment in proper operating condition by performing tasks such as lubricating equipment
• Communicate effectively
• Willing to work extended hours during the construction season
