Registered Nurse

Registered Nurses deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Nurses collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses effectively interact with patient and visitors, while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Registered Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Due to the broad range of medical conditions they encounter, they must be well-versed in a large variety of health conditions.

Registered Nurses have a professional obligation to participate in committee activities, surveys, and improvement initiatives. In addition, Registered Nurses must uphold the standards of the Texas Nurse Practice Act.

Critical Care Registered Nurses provide care for adolescent and adult patients with life-threatening critical illnesses and injuries.

Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing

Required Licenses/Certifications

Registered Nurse

BLS - should not initiate patient contact until completed.

ACLS should be completed within 90 days of hire.

NIH Stroke Scale should be completed within 90 days of hire.

Ability to work with therapeutic equipment.

Input data into computer programs.

Knowledge of Nursing process and ability to deliver patient care based on standards of care.

Essential Functions

Demonstrates a consistent adherence to company policies and procedures related to attendance and tardiness, professional appearance, corporate compliance, and applicable legal requirements.

Communicates using the components of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You).

Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient plan of care.

Prepares, administers, and documents medications as prescribed in accordance with Hendrick policy.

Initiates corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatology to medication or treatment.

Reports or escalates clinically significant events or findings.

Respond to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and hospital policy.

Provides on-going education throughout the hospital stay to patient and/or family regarding procedures, managing health issues, treatment plans, and medications.

Documents all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format.

Monitors, adjusts, evaluates, and documents specialized equipment used on patients.

Competently performs technical skills as appropriate for the clinical setting.

Prepares equipment and aids physician during examination and treatment of patient.

Participates in early initiation and on-going discharge planning.
