Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and installation of plant production and service equipment, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, steam, water and air systems, and for building maintenance or repair. The employee must function at high levels of quality and efficiency while maintaining the highest safety standards. Pay Rate: $38.27 Shift schedule: 3p-3a, four on - four off Responsibilities Able to work safely around electrical and other industrial equipment Work on wide electrical power systems with AC voltages ranging from 120/240, 277/480, and DC voltages, including AC/DC motor controls Install, maintain and repair Mill equipment using blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions as directed by Maintenance or Mill Supervision Troubleshoot as necessary Use hand tools and power tools associated with standard mechanical and electrical maintenance Perform preventive maintenance tasks and understand basic preventive maintenance tools Monitor and troubleshoot level, flow, and pressure control instrumentation Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics Work with computer systems including PLC & DCS ladder logic Work with pneumatics Perform work on tubing and hose systems Perform pipefitting and plumbing work on pipes, valves and fixtures Perform rough carpentry as required Laser align equipment, rebuild pumps, change machine bearings, operate cutting torches, weld plate and pipe, and safely troubleshoot and repair hydraulic components Operate equipment such as hoists, cranes, and forklifts to perform rigging and installation tasks Maintain safety and housekeeping in accordance with shop rules; additional duties may be assigned by supervision May be assigned to various jobs for training purposes at any time Other duties as assigned Background / Experience Manufacturing, mechanical, or electrical maintenance experience Education / Knowledge High School Diploma or equivalent required 4 years mechanical or electrical apprenticeship preferred 4 years of experience as a multi-specialty mechanic Ability to read and interpret information sheets Specific Skills Electrical troubleshooting and electrical work Applied mathematics Measurements and layouts Welding and cutting principles & practices Use of portable hand tools Understanding operation of pumps, motor alignment, dial feeler gauge, laser Pump & motor component assembly Welding stainless steel and steel, and using cutting torch and brazing Ability to use various computer software programs for production and shipping systems Willingness to work around production equipment while in operation; climbing ladders and working from girders and scaffolding Exposure to weather, dirt, grease, fumes and heat Knowledge of rigging methods for heavy equipment, including chain blocks, rope blocks, slings and overhead cranes Physical Demands Working in a safety-sensitive heavy industrial environment – Paper Mill Working with electricity at varied voltages Standing for extended periods Awkward and repetitive movements Climbing extension ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or movement in confined areas Working in buildings and areas with fluctuating temperature and weather Smurfit Westrock is an Equal Opportunity Employer , committed to creating and maintaining a diverse workforce, including Minorities, Women, Veterans and Disabled.
