Job Summary Job type: Full Time Shift: Days Hours: 0800-1630 Schedule: 10 (8) hour shifts per 2 week pay period. Some weekends may be required. General Duties Under the direction of the Director of Emergency Services and in collaboration with the Medical Director(s) of Trauma and Critical Care Services, the Trauma Program Manager/Trauma Process Improvement and Safety Nurse is responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for the multidisciplinary approach to the care of the injured patient. The Trauma Program Manager/Trauma Process Improvement and Safety Nurse collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director in carrying out the educational, clinical, research, administrative, and outreach activities of the trauma program. The Trauma Program Manager/Trauma Process Improvement and Safety Nurse, working in conjunction with the Director of Emergency Services and the Trauma Medical Director, assists the trauma program in monitoring all aspects of care. This position will ensure that all guidelines and protocols are consistent with the care being provided. Attends hospital, Tenet, medical staff, and department meetings as assigned. Meets hospital wide and department specific competencies. Participates willingly in department/hospital process improvement plans. Ensures confidentiality with patient and physician information and demonstrates understanding of HIPAA. Responsibilities Provide quarterly educational offerings to JFK Memorial Hospital staff. Participate and guide the orientation of new staff in the care of trauma patients. Provide community trauma education and prevention yearly. Monitor trends and sentinel events, and outline remedial action. Coordinate day to day clinical process and performance improvement. Manage required reporting data for filters and case reviews of county and state authorities. Provide outgoing data for hospital quality programs and PI initiatives for trauma program. Maintain hospital trauma registry as required by county and state guidelines without 30‑day log discrepancy. Collect, code, score and develop process for validation of data derived from trauma center care. Conduct monthly trauma audits providing feedback to director and nursing staff relating to deficiencies. Provide direct supervision of trauma registrar. Provide clinical management support in the absence of the clinical manager. Serve as liaison to administration and clinical staff for trauma program issues. Represent hospital in a professional manner in community activities, county and state‑wide functions including monthly county EMS meetings. Conduct yearly JFK Memorial Hospital research projects relating to trauma care. Participate in daily rounds on all inpatient trauma patients. Maintain participation in a state or national clinical organization pertaining to trauma registry. Ability to work productively in a fast paced and changing environment. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Able to demonstrate proficiency with computer hardware, trauma registry software and ensuring preventative and routine maintenance for a database registry. Accurately identify all patients for entry into the hospital trauma registry, abstract data from the medical records of appropriately defined trauma patients, and complete and verify for accuracy all data collected and entered as a requirement for a level II trauma center according to current local, state and national standards. Aid in the preparation for the American College of Surgeons‑ Committee (ACS‑COT) on Trauma Level 4 Trauma Center Verification/Re‑verification and/or the Riverside County EMS Agency trauma survey, as applicable. Analyze trauma data to provide both routine and ad‑hoc reports of trauma statistics and performance improvement and patient safety audits/filters to the TPM, and not limited to: monthly performance improvement meetings and trauma operational meetings, routine volume reporting, statistics, trends in audit filters, loop closure evaluation and opportunities for improvement, education, financial analysis, trauma audit committee and southeast trauma coordinating care committee, external oversight: The Joint Commission, CMS, and the ACS‑COT, and/or Riverside County EMS Agency, Trauma research. Assign and score all injuries utilizing the AIS and ICD‑9 system or equivalent. Assign accurate E‑codes, collect and code data on all procedures, complications, ensuring all data elements for the hospital trauma registry are collected, entered and validated per current local, state, and national standards. Attend required orientation and training seminars. Demonstrate initiative and creativity in problem solving. Design, implement and test the user interfaces and reports for database applications. Develop and report trauma audit filter information to the Trauma Operational Committee and Trauma PI Committee as appropriate. Ensure loop closure on all identified issues. Establish and maintain the databases used for testing new and modified applications. Maintain confidentiality of patient care and business matters. Meet production standards within established time requirements. Modify and maintain database structure and methods as required. Monitor the security of data to ensure the integrity and reliability of database systems. Perform chart reviews for those trauma patients meeting criteria for PI/Peer Review. Prepare the cases for review for the multidisciplinary peer review meetings. Proven ability to abstract data from database software into spreadsheet formats. Responsible for maintaining the tracking system for case review, audit filters, PI, and peer review reports. Submit the required data elements to the Riverside County trauma registry as required by state statute. Identify and submit data to approved local, regional, and national trauma registry as approved by the TPM. Work and performance meets quality standards. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Nursing; Master’s preferred. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current California RN license, Current American Heart Association BLS/ACLS/PALS certificate. Certification specific to Trauma (TNCC, TCRN, PHTLS, or an appropriate trauma‑based equivalent). Five years’ experience as a clinical RN in Emergency/Trauma Center or Critical Care Unit. Prefer previous trauma program management—preferred. Trauma Registrar certification (CSTR or CAISS certified) or within 2 years of hire. Special Qualifications: Knowledge of trauma statistical reports, peer review, performance—preferred. Experience with improvement and injury prevention, epidemiology—preferred. Ability to create and make data presentations to groups with varied needs. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Salary Range: $65.32 - $104.52 per hour.
